House Remodel Outside

My goal for this year was to either move or remodel my house.  My husband and I separated in 2013 and divorced in 2015 after being married almost 30 years.  My grandpa had left me his house when he passed away in 2008.  He and grandma had purchased it in 1952 and raised my mom and her brother here, so I hated to sell it.  Each of my daughters had lived here on different occasions and it was rented for a year prior to me moving in the summer of 2014.  When my grandparents bought it, it was a very small 2 bedroom with a living room and smaller kitchen.  My grandpa, over the years, added another bedroom, bathroom, utility room, family room, added on to the kitchen and built a 2 car attached garage, At one point, it was white with pink shutters and railings on the porch.

I had planned on remodeling the bathroom and getting new flooring in the kitchen first, but since I had some shingles blow off in a windstorm, I decided that the roof needed to be first. My heating bills had been extremely high, so I decided I wanted to get new windows and insulation before winter.  I had a window in my bathroom that I didn't like since it was in my shower and I didn't want the plugs in my siding for them to blow in insulation, so one thing led to another.  I ended up having a new roof, gutters, insulation, windows, siding, front porch railings, painted the floor of the front porch, new shutters and painted the front door burgundy.

This project, along with the bathroom remodel was started in May and was completed in October.  It took a lot longer than I had planned, but am pleased with both projects.

This is how I always remember it when they lived here.

This is what it looks like now.

He still needs to wire and mount the lights on the front of the garage and next to the back door.  Next year I'll work on landscaping and maybe doing something with the patio.
