Baby Girl Blanket

My daughter's future sister-in-law had a baby girl this morning.  I made this blanket for her.  It is very quick and easy.

It is made out of fleece, front and back.  The back is plain pink.  It is 42" square.  I put wrong sides together and stitched about 1" from the edge all the way around.  I snipped the edge every 1/4" all the way around to create the edging.  I used strands of floss to "tie" it together.  Since the patterned fleece had a quilt look, I just tied some floss every 3 squares, skip a row and tie the next row opposite of the previous row.

                                                       Example:   xxxXxxxXxxxXxxxXxxx
                                                                          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                                                          xXxxxXxxxXxxxXxxxX
                                                                          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                                                          xxxXxxxXxxxXxxxXxxx
                                                                          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                                                          xXxxxXxxxXxxxXxxxX

If your fleece doesn't have a pattern that you can do that with, figure out a different pattern to place your ties, or sew from corner-to-corner or side-to-side.

I made a ribbon blanket to match:

I cut the ribbons too long, so I tied knots in a few of them and folded some of the others and stitched them.  I don't mind the knotted ones, but don't care for the others.  They really didn't look that long until I had it finished.  It is also fleece on both sides and is 8 1/2" square.
